City Nord, from Hamburg, Germany sells as lot 1537 a "1st half of 20th century, signed "L. Donivsz..."(?)" Dancer with monkeys, estimated at 250 Euro.
It is a charming work by Jan Czeslaw Moniuszko.(Poland, 1853-1908), known for his depictions of the rich having balls and parties. Typical fin-de-siècle upper-class art with little message or conviction but lots of style and elegance. This one is smaller than usual, and a bit weirder, showing some kind of circus or street theatre act. Style, subject and signature match. It should be worth closer to 1,000 Euro probably.
